  21. This describes a situation I had, which was due to a "pilot error": I had
  22. put run commands for an incompatible bunch of hacks into my startup-sequence
  23. file (sys:s/startup-sequence).  Try booting without a startup-sequence file.
  24. When you turn power on (or give the three finger salute), keep both mouse
  25. buttons depressed until the boot screen shows up.  Then select "boot with
  26. no startup-sequence" (or very similar, I'm not at my A4000 right now), then
  27. press "boot".  If my theory is correct (that you may have a messed up startup
  28. file), you can now edit it (for example, take out all "run <hackname>" stuff,
  29. make sure that the first command is setpatch, etc).  And if you really have a
  30. hardware problem, you will probably not be able to get your system to boot
  31. even without a startup-sequence file.  I hope this helps, it is such a handi-
  32. capped feeling to have ones A in the shop...
